The Beginning: A Problem at Sea

In 2020, while on a family trip to the Florida Keys with my wife and two daughters, we took our Grady White boat out for a snorkeling trip. On the way back, one of the engines suddenly shut down. We were fortunate—we made it back on the other engine. But the cause was troubling: water-contaminated fuel from a recent fill-up.

What started as an inconvenience quickly escalated. Water overwhelmed the fuel filter, reached the engines, and left the boat out of commission for the rest of the trip. We spent significant time and money fixing the issue—an issue that could have been prevented with earlier detection.

The Gap in the Market

When I began researching solutions, I was shocked to find how limited and unreliable the options were. The largest filter manufacturer, Racor, had stopped recommending water-in-fuel sensors for gasoline applications, citing safety. Their products were essentially marked diesel-only.

The available electronic sensors—those that tried to measure conductivity or resistance—were notoriously unreliable. Many users complained about failures, false alarms, and poor performance. There was no good solution for gasoline-powered boats like mine.

The Birth of WIFPRO

I wasn’t willing to compromise safety or reliability. Instead, I set out to design a new kind of water-in-fuel monitoring device—a system that would:

  • Detect early and accurately before water reached the engine.

  • Maximize reliability with a simplified, robust design.

  • Avoid common sensor failures with a unique, non-traditional approach.

  • Offer modern integration through NMEA certification and a rich user interface.

That was the beginning of WIFPRO—a four-year journey of in-depth R&D to build a water and fuel monitoring system designed specifically for boaters who value safety, performance, and peace of mind.

The Mission

WIFPRO exists to protect boaters from the same fate I faced: losing an engine, a trip, or worse, their safety, because of undetected fuel contamination. Our mission is simple:

  • Protect your engines and propulsion systems

  • Save you money on avoidable repairs

  • Preserve your time on the water

  • Provide peace of mind every trip

At the end of the day, boating is about freedom, family, and adventure. WIFPRO ensures that nothing—especially water in your fuel—gets in the way.

Brief:

Problem:
In 2020, on a family trip in the Florida Keys, my boat’s engine shut down due to water-contaminated fuel from a bad marina fill-up. We barely made it back safely, and the repair cost us time, money, and our trip. This problem is widespread, yet no reliable solution exists—especially for gasoline-powered boats.

Market Gap:
Current water-in-fuel sensors are unreliable, prone to false alarms, and not recommended for gasoline use by the largest manufacturer, Racor. Boaters are left with no safe, trusted option.

Solution (WIFPRO):
We developed a patented, highly reliable detection and alert system that offers early water-in-fuel detection without the failures of existing sensors. It’s feature-rich, NMEA-certified, and built with long-service components to protect engines, enhance safety, and give peace of mind on the water.

Opportunity:
The recreational boating industry is a $170B+ global market. With millions of boats at risk from contaminated fuel, WIFPRO fills a critical safety and reliability gap—protecting both leisure and commercial vessels.
